JDU: The Apprenticeship Pathway
JDU is JD Machine's U.S. Department of Labor Certified Apprenticeship Program — a structured, paid pathway from no prior experience to journey-level machinist or fabricator, with classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and mentorship by experienced team members who came through similar paths. Apprentices earn while they learn, the journey-level certification is federally recognized, and the program connects directly to the work being done on the floor.

Where is JD Machine located, and is the role on-site?
JD Machine operates from a 100,000 sq ft facility at 2744 North Parkland Blvd, Ogden, Utah. Production roles are on-site. Most team members commute from across Northern Utah within about a 30-minute drive of the facility.
Do I need prior manufacturing experience?
For some roles, yes. For others, no. The JDU apprenticeship is built specifically for people without prior experience who want to learn the trade. Position descriptions on ApplicantPro list the experience required for each opening.
What does advancement look like?
Continuous Improvement is the discipline that runs the shop, and it runs careers too. Apprentices advance through JDU to journey-level certification. Experienced team members move into lead, programming, quality, and supervisory roles. All three of the owner's children came up through the business; the company is structured to grow people, not just hire them.
Is U.S. citizenship required?
JD Machine performs work under ITAR and CMMC Level 2, which means some positions and work areas have eligibility requirements tied to U.S. person status. Position descriptions on ApplicantPro note which roles carry those requirements.
