JD Machine has been engaged and enthusiastic about the principles of lean manufacturing for many years. With some help from a few of our customers, we implemented U-shaped manufacturing cells to eliminate Work in Process (WIP) and improve the flow of man and material. This was one of our first steps in lean activities. Since that first step, we have incorporated lean manufacturing into every aspect of our business.
We believe that lean manufacturing is not a set of tools but a management system that includes process design, visual management, problem solving, leaders as teachers and lessons learned and application. The JDPS management system drives our culture and we are proud that our team believes and behaves based on the principles espoused by the system.
One representation of our culture is the number of implemented ideas by our employees. We have a suggestion system that captures ideas each day that are then reviewed and implemented by the teams. Over the last year we have averaged over eight ideas implemented per person in the company and over two thousand in the last few years. The engagement of our employees is what sets us apart and allows us to be the most competitive and customer value driven company around. Lean principles are the bones and muscle of the body of the JD managements system, with our employees and their commitment and engagement being the lifeblood.
